Overview

Tell us what you think about Southwark's Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS).

We're keen to hear from people who live, work or visit the borough, as well as from partner organisations who will play a part in making the strategy work. Does it include the right priorities and actions for dealing with flood risks in Southwark?

What is a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy?

A Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is a strategic document which is required under the Flood and Water Management Act (2010). It presents how flood risk will be managed locally by the Lead Local Flood Authority, in this case Southwark Council.

What does the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy include?

  • The roles and responsibilities of authorities
  • Local flood risk
  • Plans to support resilient local communities
  • Sustainable management options
  • What has been done to manage flood risk
  • Actions for delivering flood risk management in the future

We have included a number of examples of local flood risk areas in Southwark - Peckham, East Camberwell, London Bridge area and Dulwich/Herne Hill area.

What are the strategic objectives?

A: To improve community awareness of local flood risks and the authorities responsible for managing them.

B: To collaborate with internal departments, organisations, authorities and partnership groups to support successful communication in managing flood risk.

C: To support development across Southwark encouraging the integration of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) within planning designs to promote sustainable multi-beneficial solutions that contribute to wider social, economic and environmental outcomes.

D: To apply knowledge on local flood risk to assist in improving Southwark’s resilience to the impacts of climate change.

What can I comment on?

We have included the key documents below, and they are repeated within the questionnaire. These include:

  • The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS)
  • Summaries of some significant local flood risks
  • The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy Action Plan
  • The Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
  • The Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA)
  • Non-technical summary versions of the LFRMS, SEA and HRA

The SEA and HRA may be of more interest to partner organisations who are Risk Management Authorities (RMAs), but all respondents are welcome to answer all questions in the survey.

* Please note - we know that not everyone will have time to read the whole strategy, so we have included summary documents - but you may still wish to allow 10-15 minutes to respond to the survey.

Why your views matter

Flood risk is an ongoing issue that affects many people in Southwark, and will continue to do so as we feel the effects of climate change. You can help us make sure that our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is a good fit for local needs.

Please share this link with your friends, family and contacts – the more people we hear from, the better informed our work will be. We often receive fewer responses to online surveys from Black and other minoritised communities so we are especially keen to hear from you.
