Overview

Tell us what you think of our design proposals

In autumn 2018, we commissioned two reports by landscape architects Wynne-Williams Associates (on play spaces) and Farrah Huxley Associates (on wider Dickens Estate landscape improvements) under the banner of the Bermondsey Riverside Community Project (BRCP).

The architects consulted local people, to find out what playground improvements they would like to see.  Their ideas were considered and pulled together, in a playground design that aims to improve the quality and use of the playgrounds.

Created by the appointed architects, Wynne Williams Ltd the design covers:

Scott Lidgett Playground

  • the replacement of play equipment for children of all ages
  • new equipment for natural play
  • improved layout of the space
  • pedestrian access improvements
  • new seating
  • new play surfaces
  • new planting areas

Wickfield Play Area and Ball Court

  • a cleaned ball court with new pitch markings
  • refurbished playground entrance and railings
  • new seating area
  • new rubber crumb surfacing
  • new grass rubber matting
  • new planting areas
  • new play markings

We want to know what you think about the designs by completing this online survey, open to anyone who lives, works or visits the local area (map below):

Council officers are also planning visits to youth centres, mother and toddler clubs and nurseries, playground and local schools, to capture people’s views.  More information will be shared soon.

Whether online or in person, our sustainable growth team at Southwark Council looks forward to hearing from you by the closing date of 30 September 2023.

Why your views matter

This is a really good opportunity for people who live, work or visit the local area (map top of this page) to be involved in shaping final designs for much-needed improvements to the two playgrounds, to increase their use and appeal for local people.

What happens next
