Bells Gardens Estate Pre-Planning

Closed 4 Jan 2021

Opened 13 Nov 2020

Overview

You have been directed to this website from a newsletter about our proposal for a mixed development of new homes on the Bells Gardens estate, as well as the re-provision of games areas, a community centre and landscaped green space.

With over 10,000 households on the council's waiting list the need for genuinely affordable housing has never been greater, and Southwark Council with support from the GLA has the opportunity to build new homes in the borough.

Over the last few months the council has been working with a project group representing local residents, community groups who use the centre and ward councillors to contribute towards the architects' development of the designs. The design stage is now complete, and we would like to have your views on the proposal before it is submitted for planning approval.

Why your views matter

Whilst acknowledging the difficulties caused by COVID-19, the Council continues to be committed to its target of delivering 11,000 new homes by 2043. Therefore, where possible, the New Homes Team continues to operate on a business as usual basis to ensure that new homes continue to be developed.

At this stage, we would usually invite you to attend a drop in event to see the completed scheme before a planning application is submitted. As we are unable to hold such events the presentation boards are published here for you to review, together with a “You said, we did” summary of the consultation undertaken so far.

We would like you to look at the final designs and submit your views in the short questionnaire attached.

A further request for your comments will be made when the planning department receives the application - this will be the statutory consultation on the scheme.
