Southwark Scheme for Financing Schools Consultation (Maintained Schools only) 2023-24

Local Authorities (LAs) are required to publish Schemes for Financing Schools, setting out the financial relationship between them and the schools they maintain.  The School and Early Years Finance Regulations (England) 2023, Schedule 5 sets out the minimum content of those schemes.

The Department for Education provides Statutory Guidance (Issue 15, updated 31 March 2023) about the contents, but there is local discretion on some aspects of it.  In making changes to their schemes, LAs must consult all maintained schools in their area and receive the approval of the members of their schools forum representing maintained schools.

We have launched a consultation which proposes a small number of changes to our Scheme for Financing Schools.

We encourage all maintained schools to respond to the consultation.

The consultation documentation consists of:

• the current Southwark Scheme for Financing Schools; and
• a consultation document that explains the proposed amendments.

This consultation is being carried out by Chidren's and Adults' Services, Southwark Council.  We look forward to hearing from you by the closing date of 4 December 2023.
