North Peckham Streetspace Review

Closes 19 Sep 2021

Opened 31 Jul 2021

Overview

Tell us what you think about the road schemes that have been introduced in North Peckham, implemented in 2020. We want to hear from everyone who has an interest in how the streets in this area are used.

MAP

Streets for people

This scheme has the following aims:

  • Improve road safety.
  • Help tackle the climate emergency
  • Make walking and cycling enjoyable, safe and easy ways of getting around.
  • Reduce inequalities in health and wellbeing
  • Reduce the amount of cut-through traffic
  • Encourage people to shop local to help businesses and reduce car use.
  • Create a greener and healthier environment by improving air quality and reducing pollution and noise levels.
  • Make more space on our pavements for social distancing to help keep everyone safe from COVID-19.

What was introduced

  • Elcot Avenue: Adding bench at the junction with Furley Road.
  • Fenham Road: Improving the crossing at the junction with Friary Road and adding a traffic filter and a bench between Kincaid Road and Pennethorne Road, to be completed by October 2021
  • Marmont Road: Improving the crossing at the junction with Goldsmith Road and adding a traffic filter at the junction with Peckham High Street.
  • Goldsmith Road: Adding a traffic filter at the junction with Meeting House Lane.

The aim of this consultation is to determine whether the changes should stay where they are or if we should amend the location so that it better suits the needs and access preferences of residents in the area but still meets the objectives of the low-traffic neighbourhood.

This is a public consultation which will inform a decision on whether to amend, keep or remove measures.

Since we want to understand the views of residents from all demographics, we ask that you complete the questions about where you live and your backgrounds at the end of the survey. This information will only ever be used for monitoring. We will not publish any personal data.

You are also invited to a zoom meeting on Saturday 14th August at 3pm. Register your interest here:- https://northpeckham.eventbrite.co.uk

Why your views matter

The results of this questionnaire, as well as the engagement events we are carrying out this summer will be considered alongside monitoring data from the streets themselves to produce a report and a recommendation to either:

One: Make the scheme permanent
If the data and consultation feedback indicates that the trials are meeting our objectives, we will recommend making the current experimental traffic orders permanent.

Two: Make amendments to the existing scheme
If the data, consultation feedback and safety considerations indicate that changes can be made to improve a scheme then we will recommend making amendments.

Three: Remove all or part of the scheme
If the scheme is not achieving the benefits expected, we can remove all or part of the scheme (subject to safety considerations).
