January 2022

We are happy to inform you that Linden Grove has been granted planning permission for 27 new council homes.

A planning application for the new homes proposal at Linden Grove, was submitted last year and planning granted in March 2021.

Further details can be found in July’s newsletter.

Thank you to all those local people who have helped us reach this milestone. Your comments, questions and contributions have been a hugely important part of making sure this project develops.

We are now in the procurement process which aims to appoint a suitable contractor who will build the development. Once this is complete there will be a further drop-in session with an opportunity to meet the contractors and to join the resident’s project group who will start meeting regularly with the contractor and project team during the construction process. We will provide details of this closer to the time.

Overview

Southwark Council has made the ambitious commitment to build 11,000 new council homes by 2043, with the first 2,500 delivered by the end of 2022.

We currently have over 300 new homes either completed or under construction in the new homes programme and have been working with residents to identify sites where we could build new homes.

One of the sites where we are proposing to build new homes is on 66 Linden Grove where the temporary accomodation building is at present, as shown in the maps below.

Why your views matter

To make our schemes a success we need to know what residents think and make sure residents shape our proposals. We think this is the key to the delivery of quality homes that also improve the local area and the lives of Southwark residents. We want to hear what you think about our proposal to build on this site. Your feedback is very important and will be used to develop our plans.

What happens next

About a month after the drop in we will set up a new homes project group made up of about nine local residents, including representatives of the local TRA. This group will work with the Council to develop a proposal for the site based on what we have been told so far at the drop in and through this survey.

We will present these proposals to local people at a second drop in and online before we finalise our plans for submission to the Planning Department for approval
