11,000 New Council Homes - Leroy Street

Closed 14 Oct 2019

Opened 25 Sep 2019

Results Updated 23 Sep 2020

The New Homes Development Team consulted with all residents in September 2019 asking for your views on the redevelopment of the garages which are situated on the Creasy Estate. We also had a walkabout with some residents and ward councillors in November 2019.

We value your feedback and have taken on board all your comments which will help us to develop our plans for the new homes.

In February 2020 we wrote to you informing you that the project had received approval to proceed to the Design and Development stage and that we were looking for residents to be a part of the Residents Project Group which was set up in June 2020. .

The Resident Project Group is made up of local residents who have worked closely with the council officers, Ward Councillors and will also work with our  consultants to develop the plans for the new homes.

The first role of the Project Group was to develop a Community Brief which details what matters most to residents about the new homes and improving where they live.

The Community Brief will be issued to our architects and they will respond to this during their selection process and then through the design process once they have been appointed.

Please find a copy of the Community Brief flyer for your information.

NEXT STEPS

Representatives from the Resident Project Group will be involved in the interviewing of the architects in the next coming months.  We will let you know the outcome of the interview and invite you to meet the architect and other members of the design team.

Overview

We've committed to  build 11,000 new council homes across Southwark by 2043 - 2,500 of these by 2022. It's a big goal, but crucial if we're going to tackle the housing crisis and make sure our residents have quality homes they can be proud of, now and in the future.

Throughout the design and development of all our new council homes, we work closely with residents and the local community to help shape the way we do things, so your feedback is important to us.

Leroy Street, Creasy estate - garage site

We are  considering developing new council homes where three garage blocks are currently situated. These garages are no longer used for their intended purpose and could be used to build council homes for local residents in housing need.

The map below shows the indicative area of council land on which we may develop in consultation with local residents.

Why We Are Consulting

We want residents to be involved in choosing the best development option for the area. Please take a few minutes to give us your views in this short questionnaire.

If you are having difficulties and would like some help with completing this form, please contact the New Homes Engagement officer Helen Laker on 0207 525 0848.
