Leroy Street, Creasy estate

Closes 10 Dec 2023

Opened 10 Dec 2020

Overview

We've committed to  build 11,000 new council homes across Southwark by 2043 - 2,500 of these by 2022. It's a big goal, but crucial if we're going to tackle the housing crisis and make sure our residents have quality homes they can be proud of, now and in the future.

Leroy Street, Creasy estate - garage site

We are  considering developing new council homes where three garage blocks are currently situated. These garages are no longer used for their intended purpose and could be used to build council homes for local residents in housing need.

The map below shows the indicative area of council land on which we may develop in consultation with local residents.

'Meet the Team' event

The New Homes Development Team held a virtual  ‘Meet the Team’ event on Thursday 12 November with residents and neighbours of the Creasy Estate. Local neighbours to the development were invited by letter. At the event, the architects (Peter Barber Architects) and employer’s agents (Airey Miller) were presented to the participants of the Zoom call.

The event was attended by members of the Project Group, who developed the Community Brief, ward councillors and members of the Project Team, as well as some residents. The Community Brief and the project objectives were presented by the Project Manager, and you can view the presentation on the download below, along with the orginal Community Brief flyer.

We would like to thank those who did manage to participate but we are also aware that many residents were not able to attend.  We are looking at ways to reach out to residents on the estate.  We have discussed this with the Project Group and the ward councillors and we hope to be available for discussions on a one-to-one basis soon.

Estate walkabout

We did a brief site walkaround earlier on 12 November with one Creasy Estate resident. This was helpful to the architects and the rest of the team as it pointed out issues that were important to the residents and neighbours in the wider area.

Why we are consulting

New Homes consultation process

Throughout the design and development of all our new council homes, we work closely with residents and the local community to help shape the way we do things, so your feedback is important to us.
