11,000 New Council Homes - Bells Gardens

Closed 28 Mar 2019

Opened 14 Feb 2019

Results updated 13 Nov 2020

Our consultation began in February 2019, and since then there have been several project group meetings inlcudiing residents, community groups who use the centre regularly, and ward councillors. The process of designing the new homes and the community space and landscaping is now complete.

At this stage in our process, we would usually invite you to attend a drop in event to see the completed scheme before a planning application is submitted. As we are unable to hold such events we are instead mailing a newsletter for you to review at home together with a “You said we did” summary of the consultation undertaken thus far. The newsletter can be also found in the section below.

The council remain committed to working with residents on our programme to deliver new social housing in Southwark during this period of uncertainty and will follow the advice issued by Central Government as to the precautionary measures and action to take to ensure that residents, staff, and partners are protected from the Coronavirus through face to face and public gatherings.

Our key principles are:

  • Respect for those affected by Covid-19
  • Business as usual minus face-to-face contact
  • Work to the amended Charter of Principles
  • Ensure equalities is at the heart of the process
  • Ensure schemes progress despite the current socio-economic climate

Immediately below are the architects' and landscapers' presentation boards, which will be submitted for planning approval. Please use the preplanning questionnaire link to send your feedback to the project manager - or email danielle.patten@southwark.gov.uk .

Overview

Southwark Council has made a commitment to deliver 11,000 new homes in Southwark by 2043, with 2,500 delivered by 2022. To make this a success we need to know what residents think and make sure residents shape our proposals.

As part of our commitment, we are considering development on the site located at 19 Buller Close, Bells Gardens:

  • new homes
  • re-provision of the community facility, amenities and multi-use games area.

Why your views matter

We consult with residents about our proposals as part of our commitment to deliver new council homes. We want residents to be included in choosing the best development option for the area.

The council began the consultation with a drop-in event on 13 February 2019. Residents and other stakeholders had the opportunity to meet the project team and give their comments about the proposed development of the estate, which the architects have taken into account - the design stage is now almost complete and we would like you to give us your comments on the design for the buildings and landscaping  on our questionnaire, and email it to the project manager, Danielle Patten - danielle.patten@southwark.gov.uk..

What happens next

Our architects are developing the plans and taking into account the issues raised in the feedback which we received. We are also commissioning further surveys to inform the design. We will hold another public drop-in event before the planning application is finally submmited. Further project group meetings will be held before this is done.
