11,000 new council homes - design and neighbourhoods

Closed 31 Aug 2015

Opened 29 May 2015

Feedback expected 30 Nov 2015

Overview

We want to hear your views on how to develop high-quality council homes which support healthy and thriving communities.  Your feedback will help us identify the most important design features, community facilities and amenities that our residents want to see around these homes, such as improved lighting, green spaces and access to local shops.

This information will contribute to the review of our Design Standards which will inform the development of the 11,000 new council homes.  The current version of our Design Standards is avaliable as a PDF in the Related Documents section below.

Willow Walk - our first development of new council homes. Coming soon!

In late May we went on a visit to Willow Walk – our first development in the 11,000 new council homes programme – with members of the Future Steering Board (a group of residents who are advising the council on the 11,000 home programme). Willow Walk will create a total of 75 council homes through two blocks of accommodation – one providing 54 short-stay accommodation units, the other providing 21 flats for social rent.  The new homes should be complete in late summer 2015.

Kitchen - 3 bedroom flat

We have used some photos of the Willow Walk development to give you an idea of the design standards the council is currently working to. Above is a photo of the kitchen area in one of the three-bedroom flats.

What do you think? Have we got it right?

Why your views matter

We have committed to the most ambitious council house building programme anywhere in the country for a generation – to build 11,000 new council homes by 2043, with 1,500 of these delivered by 2018. We want to work with you to ensure that we achieve the best we can for our communities from this investment.

See below for links to more information about the consultation and the 11,000 council homes programme.

What happens next

Thank you to those who took part in our 11,000 new council homes consultation about design and neighbourhoods.  This stage of the consultation is now closed.

We will be posting the results of our consultation in late September 2015.
