East Street improvements

Overview

Southwark Council is closing Blackwood Street and Walworth Place to vehicle access as a trial. The road closure aims to achieve the following objectives:

• Make East Street Market and the surrounding area safer by  stopping through-traffic on residential streets

• Make East Street Market and the surrounding area cleaner

• Make East Street Market more attractive to shoppers

• Act as a supportive measure to the school street closure on Morecambe Street

The trial will commence this summer for the duration of three months. During this period the trial will be monitored for traffic impact and effect on local residents and traders.
