Brimmington Park Sports Centre Hub - 2nd consultation

Closed 11 Oct 2020

Opened 13 Aug 2020

Overview

Shape our draft design proposals to improve Brimmington Park

We want to hear your views on a draft design proposal to shape improvements to Brimmington Park, near Old Kent Road in North Peckham.  The park is owned and run by Southwark Council.

Over the last year, we consulted people, to find out what improvements they would like to see at Brimmington Park.  The views and ideas of thirty two people who responded were considered and included in the updated draft design proposals for the park:

  • keep the tree previously proposed for removal by re-aligning the path
  • have more benches
  • increase cycle rack provision
  • have an additional informal play area with elements such as rocks, balance beams and logs
  • retain and repair or replace the gym equipment
  • retain graffiti where possible

Their views and ideas are included in the consultation report here.

The proposed sports centre includes a dedicated reception with control gates in the foyer. The access route is shown by arrows on the updated design, as requested during the first consultation.

The council’s fees and charges will apply to the use of the new pitches.  The fees and charges will contribute towards maintaining the facility and staffing costs.

Concern was raised that the sports pitches would always require costly fees in order to use them. This is not the case and information about the management of the new facility and free-use can be found on the project  website. However we expect there to be capacity for free use at most off-peak times, as shown by the indicative programme.

This consultation is open to anyone who lives, works or visits the borough.  We want to know what you think about the draft design proposal by completing this online survey.

Why your views matter

We are doing a consultation on the suggested designs and improvements to the sports facility, play and landscape areas, to improve the quality and increase use of the sports pitches and to make the park more appealing for everyone.

This second consultation provides a proposed single design, which has been updated and shaped by the opinions provided during the first consultation phase.

It is important that local people have a chance to tell us what they think and we welcome their feedback on the design ideas.

What happens next

At each step of the way will update you by email (providing you have given us your email address in the survey). The findings from this consultation will be published on the project webpage, shared with the local Tenant Resident Associations (TRA’s), stakeholders and Ward Councillors and published in the Old Kent Road's newsletter. The results will be used to shape the final design plans.

We expect to submit a detailed planning application that people can comment on, in winter 2020. Construction of the new sports facility is currently programmed to commence in 2021.
