We asked service users and providers for their views on the updated Travel Assistance Policy 2020, and in particular whether the terms of the policy were sufficiently clear.
Overall respondents found the revised policy sufficiently clear, but offered comments on some of the specific terms.
We have implemented a number of detailed changes to the text of the Policy, and the revised Travel Assistance Policy has now been approved by the Lead Cabinet Member.
Southwark Council is proposing to make changes to its Travel Assistance Policy for young people aged between 5 and 25 years old to ensure that it is up to date, is in line with guidance from the Department for Education, and is clear and transparent to service users and/ or their parents and carers.
The policy describes arrangements for those in need of assistance with travelling from home to school or a place of learning: the eligibility criteria; how parents/ carers/ young people may apply; how decisions are made; the types of travel arrangements available; and how parents/ carers/ young people may appeal against decisions they are unhappy with.
Reason for the Proposed Changes
These changes respond to the updated guidance provided by the Department for Education (see links below).
Please see the document below for a summary of the proposed changes. The details are also repeated on the individual pages of the questionnaire.
We would like to hear from young people, their parents/carers and the staff and organisations who work with them to ensure the policy is clear on who may be eligible for support, and the type of travel assistance support the Council is able to provide.
The questions in the survey are arranged by age group - you may choose to only answer those questions which are relevant to you/your child.
The closing date of this consultation is Friday 27th March 2020.
All responses will be considered in detail and a final decision will be made in spring/summer 2020.
